G.R.A.V.E.L. - Gamers Revel At Villains Evil Lair!
Theme: Card Chaos
August 31st 6-Midnight

The Windsor Gaming Resource and Villains Beastro are proud to announce our third GRAVEL gaming event.

The Villains Beastro is a unique, funky, weird, mystical, fun, serious, laid back, Viking-feeling, pub-looking rock n’ roll type place that has decided to open their doors for us. It’s the perfect spot for a group of geeks to hang out and play some games. There are plenty of tables of all sizes, a well lit stage area, some great beers on draft and a selection of great tasting sandwiches. Villains has agreed to give us the space for free and I encourage everyone to support the venue by buying food and drink.

Our fist two G.R.A.V.E.L. events were huge successes and Villains has been asking us when we can return. I'm not one to deny a mastermind, so we will be returning on August 31st. The gaming starts at 6PM and will officially go until Midnight.

The theme this time around is Card Chaos. We will be expecting people to bring card based games. This can be anything from people playing traditional games like Euchre and Uno to deck building games like Dominion and Nightfall or party games like Fluxx and Apples to Apples.

This is an open non-competitive gaming event that anyone is welcome to attend. Any form of games are welcome, board, card, rpg, miniatures, whatever you want to bring we are willing to have you. We encourage people to bring games that fit the theme but if there's something you just have to share, feel free to bring it. We aren't rule lawyers. You are welcome to bring your own games or share in some of ours. Everything we bring we are willing to teach and no experience is necessary. The goal is to get as many local gamers out as possible to enjoy some good food, some good company and some good games!

An important note: we are not a private club. Anyone and everyone is welcome to come out and join in the games. If you see someone playing a game and it looks interesting, ask about it. If you see a game on a table and you want to try it out, ask around and see if someone will teach it.

Villains is located Downtown at:

G.R.A.V.E.L.
Theme: Science Fiction!

The Windsor Gaming Resource and Villains Beastro are proud to announce our second GRAVEL gaming event.

The Villains Beastro is a unique, funky, weird, mystical, fun, serious, laid back, Viking-feeling, pub-looking rock n’ roll type place that has decided to open their doors for us. The theme is Villains of all types. The bar is in the shape of a '45, the walls are covered with mug shots of all manner of vile and evil villains. It’s basically the perfect spot for a group of geeks to hang out and play some games. There are plenty of tables of all sizes, a well lit stage area some great beers on draft and a selection of great tasting sandwiches. Villains has agreed to give us the space for free and I encourage everyone to support our new venue by buying food and drink.

Our fist GRAVEL event back on June 15th was a huge success and Villains practically begged to have us back. I'm not one to deny a mastermind, so we will be returning on July the 20th. The festivities start at 6PM and officially go until Midnight. Villains is open until 3AM and if people want to stay long into the night that's cool.

The theme this time around is Science Fiction! We are encouraging people to bring games that represent this theme. Battlestar Gallactica, Alien Frontiers, Robo Rally, Starfarers of Catan, Space Munckin, etc. Non-thematic games are also welcome but it will be more fun the more people that participate.

This is an open non-competitive gaming event that anyone is welcome to attend. Any form of games are welcome, board, card, rpg, miniatures, whatever you want to bring we are willing to have you. You are welcome to bring your own games or share in some of ours. Everything we bring we are willing to teach and no experience is necessary. The goal is to get as many local gamers out as possible to enjoy some good food, some good company and some good games!

An important note: we are not a public club. Anyone and everyone is welcome to come out and join in the games.

The Great Canadian Board Game Blitz Windsor Championship - May 12th
gilvan_blight
This May, the Great Canadian Board Game Blitz will be returning to Windsor Ontario for the third consecutive year. May 12th, gamers will gather at Hugin & Munin to participate in the local arm of this tournament. Prizes will include gift certificates for the store and a grand prize consisting of a pass to play in the finals held this summer in Toronto at Fan Expo.

The Great Canadian Board Game Blitz is a circuit of board game tournaments held at game conventions and retailers across Canada. Participants play several rounds of games over the span of about eight hours, collecting points based on their finishing rank in each game. The overall winner will be the player with the highest total points at the end of the day. As a player, you get to play five different games and meet many other gamers. Organizers are willing to teach all of the games, no prior experience with the games is needed. This means the Blitz is also a great way to try out new games.

The Windsor event will consist of five rounds of games with a one hour break for lunch/dinner. The event is being hosted at Hugin & Munin (1664 Tecumseh Rd. East), starts at 10:00am and is expected to be fully wrapped up by 7:00pm. There is a nomial entry fee of $5, all of which goes towards prizes for First, Second and Third placed participants.

Games and Grub at the Green Bean - December 16th
gilvan_blight
The Windsor Gaming Resource presents a night of free open gaming at the Green Bean Coffee Co. on December 16th. This is a public event at which anyone is welcome to attend.

16 December · 18:00 - 23:00

Green Bean Coffee Company
2320 Wyandotte St. West (lower)
Windsor, Ontario

One more gaming event before the big holiday celebration. One last chance to try out that game you got last year that you still haven't played yet.

The Green Bean Cafe is a great independent coffee house that offers a good selection of food and java. The Cafe is located at 2320 Wyandotte St W. in the Basement of a Church on the corner of Wyandotte and Askin (The one that says God Loves Students on the side). You can find out more about The Green Bean here: http://www.greenbeancoffee.info/ The Cafe is providing us this space for free so please show your support and thanks by buying something to drink and eat.

As far as the gaming goes you can expect the usual mix of games from one of our Games and Grub events. A mix ranging from casual to strategic, from Ameritrash to Eurogame and pretty much everything in between. For example at previous events we have had World of Warcraft: The Adventure Game, Alien Frontiers, Small World, The Great Dalmuti, Dominion, Scrabble, Shadows over Camelot, Carcasonne, No Thanks!, Settlers of Catan, Modern Art, Hex Hex DX, Hive, Caylus, Agricola and more.

This is a casual event organized to get some people out to try some new games and to get a chance to play the games they love. None of us take things too seriously, we are all out to have a good time and enjoy the company of other gamers.

If you have any questions or comments please post here and we will do our best to answer them.

Invite to area boardgamers - Games and Grub 17 - Nov 13th
gilvan_blight
This is an open invite to all Windsor and surrounding area gamers.

The Windsor Gaming Resource will be hosting an afternoon of gaming on Saturday November 13th at the Walker Road Knights of Columbus, in Windsor Ontario, from Noon until 6:00PM. This will be our 17th Games and Grub event.

At previous events we played some great games including Advanced Civilization, Agricola, Alhambra, Attika, Bang!, Bohnanza, Chez Dork, Dust, El Grande, Formula D, Hex Hex DX, Igor, Hacienda, Modern Art, Munchkin, Power Grid, Pandemic, Puerto Rico, Settlers of Catan, Shadows Over Camelot, Smallworld, Starcraft, Ticket to Ride and more.

We will have access to 2-3 large tables that should fit up to three reasonably sized boardgames each, or one massive one like The World of Warcraft Boardgame. The Knights of Columbus will be open to the public at the time, but this has never been a problem in the past and we have held multiple events at this venue. The worst that happens is regulars come over and ask what the heck are we playing and then ask if it's anything like Risk or Monopoly.

The KofC has a good sized offering of home cooked comfort food style items. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic Beverages will also be available. As the Council is not charging us to host this event I encourage everyone to support the venue by purchasing some food and/or drink while at the event. The KofC is is located at 1711 Walker Road between Tecumseh and Seminole. We will be in the restaurant portion, not the hall.

At these events we usually play boardgames, but we have also had people there playing miniature games and various card games. There are usually plenty of games to choose from, I know I always bring 8 or so different games and other players bring their favourites. Feel free to bring yours! If you have any specific requests or want to know if people are interested in playing your game, reply here.

A disclaimer: The WGR has no ties or affiliation with the Knights of Columbus or what they represent, it's just a good venue to play some games at that also happens to be free.

November 5th - Games and Grads at the GreenBean
gilvan_blight
The Windsor Gaming Resource is teaming up with the University of Windsor Graduate Student Society to host an evening of gaming on November 5th. This event will be held at the Green Bean Cafe and will run from 6:00PM until 11:00PM.

The Green Bean is a relatively new independent coffee house that I have been told has great coffee as well as a full dinner and lunch menu. They are located at 2320 Wyandotte St W. (Lower Level). You can find out more about The Green Bean here: http://www.greenbeancoffee.info/ The Cafe is providing us this space for free so please show your support and thanks by buying something to drink and eat.

As far as the gaming goes you can expect the usual mix of games from one of our Games and Grub events. This is a casual event organized to get some people out to try some new games and to get a chance to play the games they love. This mixing of the WGR and the GSS is a great opportunity for people to meet and interact with other local gamers.

If you have any questions or comments please post here and we will do our best to answer them.

Free Miniature Painting Event This Saturday - October 16th
gilvan_blight
The Windsor Gaming Resource has teamed up with Hugin and Munin, Dark Elf Productions and Eastern Front Studios to bring you an afternoon of miniature painting on October 16th.

This will be a social event in which Windsor area painters and prospective painters can gather together to hang out, paint and share tips and tricks. No prior miniature painting experience is necessary and there will be seasoned painters on hand more then willing to show you the ropes.

Mick Leach of Eastern Front Studios has generously agreed to donate miniatures for this event in celebration of the re-launch of Eastern Front Studios!

In addition to Eastern Front Studios miniatures, we will have brushes and paints available for everyone to use, but if you wish to bring your own paints and/or minis you are welcome to do so.

This is mainly meant to be a social event but a little competition never hurt anyone. Mick has asked to judge a painting contest and will be awarding a special prize to the best painted Eastern Front Miniature of the day. In addition we will be having some other less serious contests and prizes.

Dark Elf Productions will be on site taking photos and video of this event to help Eastern Front publicize their re-launch.

This event will be 100% free to participate in, but we do have a limited number of Eastern Front Miniatures to give out. Therefore we will be taking sign ups for this event. The first 16 people to sign up will receive a free miniature. People above and beyond this number are still more then willing to come out and see what painting is all about, bring their own mini to paint or just come to chat and meet other gamers.

The event is being hosted at Hugin and Munin, 1664 Tecumseh Rd. E., Windsor Ontario. on October 16th and will run from noon until 5:00PM

Please reply here or stop in and see Ian at Hugin and Munin to sign up.

Note this event is running concurrently with our RPG Book Swap, where gamers will have a chance to trade in their old books and modules for stuff they can use!

The Great Canadian Boardgame Blitz! This Saturday! Free Event! Prizes!
gilvan_blight

The Windsor Gaming Resource (WGR) and Hugin & Munin will be hosting a Windsor qualifier of the Great Canadian Board Game Blitz on Saturday August 14th, 2010 starting at 10am. Come join us for some nice, weekend board-gaming!

The Great Canadian Board Game Blitz (GCBGB) is a circuit of board game tournaments held at Canadian game conventions and retailers. Each participant plays five different games of varying lengths and complexities over the span of the day, collecting points based on finishing rank in each game. The points are used to determine priority for choosing games in following rounds and to determine the winner at the end of the tournament.

There is NO COST to participate in this event. There will be $50-100 in prizes from for the top-ranked players, depending on participation. The first place player will also receive a free pass to FanExpo for the GCBGB finals in August.

What types of games will be played?

Games are mostly 'euro'style games and will include: Saint Petersburg, San Juan, Dominion, Ticket To Ride, Settlers of Catan, Small World, Acquire, Ra, Carcasonne, Power Grid and more. Click here for the full games list

Do I need to know all the games to play in the tournament?

Although this is a tournament, a casual and friendly atmosphere are encouraged. You do not need to know any of the games to play in the GCBGB but knowing them would give you a strategic advantage. The rules for each game will be explained before starting, if needed, and any rules questions during the game will be answered.

Where is Hugin & Munin?

Hugin & Munin is located at 1664 Tecumseh Rd. E. Windsor.

I'd like to thank Hugin & Munin for their generosity in letting us use their store for this event. Please take the time to visit their web site, linked above. Normally we hold these at game conventions, which means it costs at least the entrance to the con. This one is entirely free!

How do I sign up to participate in the tournament?

Sign-ups are strongly encouraged to guarantee your spot. To reserve a spot, RSVP using the Facebook Event or by sending an email to info@gcbgb.ca.
